About Me
Sheila (Macnee) Spear is the middle of three siblings, the other two, very sadly no longer with us. Hence my self-imposed task of sharing with our offspring and our cousins, our children and their children what I have learned of their family heritage.
I was born in the midst of World War II in a small market town of Crewkerne (photo above) in the south-west of England, my parents having been evacuated from London on account of my father’s work. I lived in England till two years after I finished university. When I left, many years ago, it was without a backward glance. (See more at http://truestorieswelltold.com/2011/12/06/letting-go-2/)
Since then (1964) and now I have had homes in 4 continents and 4 US states, and made and had to say goodbye to a zillion dear friends. I have lived in Germany, Tanzania, Kenya, and Australia as well as, for the most part of my life, the United States. After years in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, my husband and I are now living in Maine. Now, as the bones get stiffer, and the days get shorter, my mind turns increasingly to the past: to warm memories, and of late to the mysteries of our family’s ancestry.
I am Mum and AuntieShe to 6 (formerly 7 – Mandy we miss you) wonderful young women, some of whom have children to share this with. They all, and their partners and children, have my ever-biding love. The other moniker, Pollycon, is a pun – I studied Political Economy. That site is dedicated to more contemporary events that don’t fit on a family history website. But feel free to visit there too.
