Ancestral Places
Where the ancestors walked, a guide to the Macnee/Harley ancestral places.
An excuse for a day in the country, or you are in the area and have time to spare. Take a visit to the places your ancestors lived and died, walked and worked. Some of these I have been to, others not. If you go, please take photos and send them to me so we can add them to this site.
Each place is connected to one or more family ancestor, whose names when first entered are linked to their entry in the family tree, where besides their relationships and place in the tree you can find a detailed account of all I know about that person (cick on the individual’s name for the personal details, or navigate up and down the tree to see relationships.
I assume you have SatNav, so have not provided detailed travel directions. And I know you can look things up in Wikipedia, so the information on these places comes from slightly less obvious sources, some of which I have listed.
Have a sunny day out. Auntieshe
Harley Family Places
I knew our Grandmother Harley as a resident of London. At some time I heard vaguely that the Harleys were from Birmingham. But I was surprised to learn that Granny’s own family, the Gilvrays, came from Newcastle upon Tyne, with a Scottish link too.
Berkshire: Of woods and woodmen, and the head teacher who disappeared
The Kent family, an ancestral line on the Granny Gilvray side of the Harley family, lived in a small corner of Berkshire not far from Reading.
